Cebu's Sinulog Festival 2017 Schedule of Events

Cebu's Sinulog Festival is absolutely one of the most anticipated event every January. Sinulog Festival of Cebu is a week-long celebration of religious and cultural significance. The festival commemorates the first Christian baptism in the Philippines in 1521 during the expedition of Ferdinand Magellan. As a baptismal gift to Hara Amihan, the wife of the Cebu chieftain, He gave an image of Sto. Nino or the Child Jesus. Several days later Magellan died in a battle in neighboring Mactan Island.

44 years later the same image was found by another Spanish explorer. The image were house at the Minor Basilica of the Child Jesus in Cebu as it is considered miraculous. It became the center of Sinulog Festival which was held annually every third Sunday of January. This 2017 the date falls on January 15. So plan ahead and book you flight and hotels now!

The Sinulog Festival 2017 officially starts at dawn of January 5, 2017, with a walk with Jesus from Fuente Osmena to the Basilica del Sto. Nino. It will be followed by Hermano y Hermana Mayores of 2017.

One of the most anticipated festival not only in the city of Bacolod but also in the Province and the country as well will once again celebrate Masskara Festival. It is an annual celebration every fourth Sunday of October based on the ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang . Photo: Masskara Festival Being dubbed as the " happiest and most colorful festival in the Philippines " is a month-long celebration with different events and activities. Masskara Festival draw thousands of visitors both local and foreign during the festival. The word "Masskara" is a portmanteau, coined by the late artist Ely Santiago from mass (a multitute of people), and cara (face), thus forming MassKara (a multitude of faces). The word is also a pun on maskara, Filipino for "mask" (itself from Spanish mascara), since it is a prominent feature of the festival and are always adorned with smiling faces, giving rise to Bacolod being called the "City of Smiles"
