Cebu's Sinulog Festival is absolutely one of the most anticipated event every January. Sinulog Festival of Cebu is a week-long celebration of religious and cultural significance. The festival commemorates the first Christian baptism in the Philippines in 1521 during the expedition of Ferdinand Magellan . As a baptismal gift to Hara Amihan, the wife of the Cebu chieftain, He gave an image of Sto. Nino or the Child Jesus. Several days later Magellan died in a battle in neighboring Mactan Island. 44 years later the same image was found by another Spanish explorer. The image were house at the Minor Basilica of the Child Jesus in Cebu as it is considered miraculous. It became the center of Sinulog Festival which was held annually every third Sunday of January.
