Bacolod City: City of Smiles

Bacolod City is the capital of Negros Occidental, it is the largest highly urbanized mid-size Philippine city in the province. Bacolod City is also one of the best destinations in the Philippines. The city offers great food, great places, renowned festivals, serene community and off course very hospitable people. It is also dubbed as the "City of Smiles."
Bacolod is home to MassKara Festival, an annual celebration held every third week of October. This renowned festival is one of the most awaited festivals not only in the province of Negros but also the whole Philippines!

How To Get There

Bacolod City is 55 minutes from Manila by air, with Philippine Airlines, Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific Air providing daily flights. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, it is a 30 minutes flight by air.
By sea, it is an 18 hour travel from the port of Manila going to Bacolod port. Word class vessels of 2Go travel have scheduled cruise from Monday, Tuesday and Friday. From Iloilo, it is approximately 1 hour travel aboard fast sea crafts with daily schedule. By land-and-sea travel, it is 7-hour from Cebu City. Terminals for buses plying northern and southern of  Negros Province are located within the city.

Location

It is located on the northwestern coast of the Province of Negros Occidental. Bacolod is bounded on the northwest by the City of Talisay, on the east and southwest by the City of Bago and on the West by Guimaras Strait.

Points Of Interests In Bacolod City

  • San Sebastian Cathedral - Located in the heart of Bacolod City. San Sebastian Cathedral is made of coral stones from Guimaras Island. It was completed in 1882 and became a cathedral in 1933. Beside the cathedral is the Palacio Episcopal or "Bishop’s Palace" constructed in 1830.

  • The Provincial Capitol Building - Designed by an American Architect Daniel Burnham and executed by Filipino Architect Juan Arellano. It was built in 1972 with Neo-Roman architectural design.

Festivals

  • MassKara Festival - Celebrated every third week of October. It is a festive and colorful celebration wherein dancers lined the street and dances in the tune of Latin music.

  • Bacoloadiat Festival - This is Bacolod's very own Chinese New year Festival--Bacolaodiat! It comes from the words "Bacolod" & "Lao Diat" (Fookien word for celebration).
